ABUJA (A.A) - July 14, 2011 - Turkey's deputy prime minister underscored on Wednesday importance Turkey attached to Developing 8 (D-8) Council of Ministers meeting.
Bulent Arinc said Turkey's participation in the D-8 Council of Ministers meeting in the level of deputy prime minister on the day when a vote of confidence was held at the Turkish parliament indicated the importance the country was attaching to the meeting.
"D-8 was set up with good goals and intentions," Arinc said during a formal dinner hosted on the sidelines of the D-8 Council of Ministers meeting in Abuja, Nigeria.
Arinc conveyed President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's messages to those who participated in the dinner.
The meeting is set to begin on Thursday.
Arinc arrived in Abuja on Wednesday to attend D-8 Council of Ministers meeting, visited Nigerian Turkish Nizamiye Hospital, Nigerian Turkish International College, Nigerian Turkish Nile University, and Turkish Embassy building under construction, and met Nigerian Vice-President Namadi Sambo.
D-8 is an organization for development cooperation among the following countries: Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey.
The establishment of D-8 was announced officially through the Istanbul Declaration of Summit of Heads of State/Government on June 15, 1997.
