Turkish AK Party deputy honored with civilian award by Pakistan
VAN (A.A) – August 24, 2011 – Burhan Kayaturk, a deputy of Turkey's ruling Justice & Development (AK) Party, was honored with "Sitara-i-Imtiaz", a civilian award, by Pakistan.
Kayaturk told A.A on Wednesday that Pakistani Ambassador to Turkey Muhammad Haroon Shaukat called him on the phone and told him that he was honored with the award.
Kayaturk was honored with "Sitara-i-Imtiaz" or "Star of Excellence" in recognition of his services to Pakistan.
Kayaturk, who graduated from Pakistan's Lahore University of Engineering & Technology, said that he did not break his ties with Pakistan after he returned to Turkey.
Kayaturk contributed to assistances which were made to Pakistan hit by earthquake and terrorism.
"Sitara-i-Imtiaz" is the third highest honour and civilian award in Pakistan. It recognizes the individuals who made an "especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of Pakistan, world peace, cultural or other significant public endeavors". The award is not limited to the citizens of Pakistan, and it can also be awarded to foreign citizens based on their achievements and services done to the State of Pakistan.
