Turkish business confederation underlines importance of economic relations with Africa
ISTANBUL (A.A) - 14.04.2011 - The secretary general of the Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialists of Turkey (TUSKON) said on Thursday that economic cooperation was more important than steps politicians were taking.
Mustafa Gunay said Turkey could invest in particularly construction and construction materials, textile, technology, iron-steel and mining industries.
"Turkish companies could also make joint investments with European, U.S. and even Chinese companies," Gunay said during a "Turkey-Africa Seminar" in Istanbul.
Gunay said the share of trade with neighboring countries in Turkey's overall trade was up to 26 from 8 percent in six years.
Turkish exports to Africa rose to 9.3 billion USD from 3.6 billion USD from 2005 to 2010, Gunay said.
Gunay said Turkey's imports from Africa was up to 6.4 billion USD from 6 billion USD in the same period.
TUSKON had hosted 200 business and investment events with Africa in the last five years, and would continue to organize new events, Gunay also said.
