Turkish Cypriot president Eroglu wants Greek cypriots to draw lesson from past experiences

LEFKOSA (A.A) - July 20, 2011 - President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said on Wednesday that Greek Cypriot party should draw lesson from those experienced before 1974.
"37 years have passed since 1974. There is a political and socio-economic order in Northern Cyprus. Turkish Cypriot people will not give up administering themselves and they do not favor endangering effective and actual guarantee of the motherland Turkey," TRNC President Dervis Eroglu said while addressing people during a ceremony held at Dr. Fazil Kucuk Boulevard in Lefkosa on the occasion of the TRNC's Peace & Freedom Day.
Referring to the importance of the visit of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to TRNC, Eroglu said, "Mr. Erdogan, the prime minister of the 61st government of Turkey, paid his first formal visit abroad to TRNC. We are the branches of a big family tree."
Eroglu said the July 20 Peace Operation was a landmark when days of massacre ended, "Peace Operation means return to life for Greek Cypriots," he said.
Eroglu said, "Cyprus Island has a strategic importance for the region and the world. If they want the future to be better than today, historical facts should be known well."
"We established a state on the geography created by 1974 Peace Operation with the support of Turkey. We have created an economy. Turkey was always with us while we were doing all those," Eroglu said.
Referring to the project for transfer of water and electricity from Turkey, Eroglu said, "we expect the project that started in Anamur on March 7 will conclude in time, in March of 2014, and 75 million cubic meters Peace Water will start to flow from Turkey to Cyprus. I believe that this project will play an encouraging role to peace efforts in Cyprus."
"TRNC's people will be happier after consolidation of economy," he said.
Eroglu gave information about the recent developments regarding Cyprus question, noting that Greek Cypriot party had not yet held the TRNC's hand extended for peace and friendship.
Eroglu said TRNC gave electricity to Greek Cypriot side following the explosion there, "I wish this step would be a means to rapprochement between the two parties and improvement of other areas of concrete cooperation without waiting for a comprehensive solution."
Eroglu wanted the UN to display its stance, adding "we expect the United Nations to conclude Cyprus question with a viable agreement. The UN should act by being conscious of the positive environment that this viable agreement creates on the regional and world peace."
Eroglu said TRNC expected the Islam world and OIC to extend an effective support.
