Turkish FM says Ankara attaches utmost importance to normalization in Libya, protection of civilians
ANKARA (A.A) - 04.04.2011 - Turkish foreign minister has said Turkey attached utmost importance to NATO's ongoing military action in Libya which he said aimed at halting armed attack against civilians and securing the normalization of the country.
"We attach great importance to the continuation of NATO's efforts in Libya which are aimed at maintaining the normalization of Libya and protecting its people from armed attacks," Ahmet Davutoglu told reporters Monday after a meeting with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen in capital Ankara.
Davutoglu said the entire NATO action in Libya was carried out with coordination with Turkey, adding that today's meeting with Rasmussen had specifically focused on Turkey's humanitarian efforts
Davutoglu said a Turkish-flagged ship was enroute from Libya's Misrata with 475 passengers aboard, of whom 250 were wounded in the conflict between rival Libyan forces, and the ship was expected to dock at Turkey's western port city of Izmir Tuesday evening.
The Turkish foreign minister said Turkey was set to set up a field hospital at Benghazi, adding that two Turkish C-130 cargo planes had taken off, carrying necessary supplies to that end.
"The Republic of Turkey has once again showed how strong its hand of might and compassion is," Davutoglu said.
