Turkish fm: Turkey's image in the world will change
ISTANBUL (A.A) - 10.05.2011 - Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that Turkey's image in the world would change, and Turkey would be cited as one of the leading countries which supported international social justice as well as international peace order.
Istanbul's currently hosting the Fourth UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries as well as the meeting of Ministers Committee of the Council of Europe showed Turkey's capacity, added Davutoglu who spoke to reporters within the scope of the UN Conference in Istanbul on Tuesday.
Noting that Turkey attached priority to efforts to solve the regional and global problems, Davutoglu said that countries were now expecting Turkey to intervene in when a crisis emerged in the world.
Davutoglu said that Turkey, from now on, would seriously focus on social problems such as climate change and poverty as well as humanitarian and development problems in the least developed countries, adding that the UN Conference was a sign of it.
He said that Turkey was now more visible in international economic order and political order areas, adding that the ongoing conference was the widest participated conference which had been organized by the UN in the last ten years.
Recalling that the meeting of Ministers Committee of the Council of Europe would also begin tonight with an informal dinner, Davutoglu said that these meetings were generally organized in Strasbourg, and it was finally held in Madrid in 2008.
When asked whether he was comfortable with the term "the least developed countries", Davutoglu said that this expression disturbed him very much and he suggested UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to change it as soon as possible, and Ban agreed with him.
