Turkish foreign minister eager for mediation in Libya, Japan daily says

TOKYO/SHANGHAI (A.A) - 28.03.2011 - One of leading newspapers in Japan said that Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu was eager to have a mediatory role in Libya.
The paper, Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Nikkei), published Monday an interview with Foreign Minister Davutoglu.
It quoted Davutoglu as saying that there was need to exert efforts for a lasting truce in Libya. The paper interpreted Davutoglu's remarks as he wanted to mediate between Libyan leader Muammer Gaddafi and opposition groups.
The Japanese paper quoted him as saying that Turkey was in contact with Libya and was exerting efforts for normalization of situation in the country.
It also said that Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a phone conversation with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and encouraged Syria for democratization.
