Turkish foreign minister says Turkey not to refrain from any sacrifices for Libya
ISTANBUL (A.A) - 02.03.2011 - The Turkish foreign affairs minister said on Wednesday that Turkey would not refrain from any sacrifices for Libya.
Speaking to representatives of the Turkish media at a gathering in capital Ankara, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said an understanding of common fate had recently arisen in the Middle East and peoples of the region started to react to developments by looking at each other's attitudes.
"A psychological revolution is taking place in the region. It is much more important than political revolutions," he said.
Davutoglu said that Turkey currently had the necessary channels to establish communication with all the social groups in Libya, Egypt and Tunisia within seconds or hours.
Commenting on the unrest in Libya, Davutoglu said 22,617 Turkish nationals had been evacuated from the country as of today.
He said Turkey had also evacuated 3,340 nationals of 52 countries from Libya.
Pointing to foreign media organs' praising Turkey's successful evacuation operation, Davutoglu said all relevant Turkish institutions had worked in great coordination and nothing had gone wrong.
The minister said that Britain and Australia had closed down their embassies and consulates in Libya after the turmoil in the country, and therefore, Turkey currently represented the benefits of these states in Libya.
Davutoglu said Turkey would continue to extend support for the transport of foreigners from Libya as it considered such stance as a humanitarian move.
"From now on, we will do anything in our force for a solution. We will not refrain from any sacrifices for Libya. We are still against an external intervention to the country. Any external intervention will make the situation worse," he said.
Minister Davutoglu also said that the mistakes done in Iraq should not be repeated in Libya.
He said any image of a clash between the West and Arabs, Islamic world or Libya should be avoided.
