Turkish PM calls western countries to review their stance over east
ISTANBUL (A.A) - 24.03.2011 - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on the western countries to review their stance over the East and the South.
Delivering a speech in a meeting on gender equality in Istanbul, Erdogan said that those who articulated concepts inciting clashes of civilizations must look at their own conscience.
"I call on our western friends to see hungry children, suffering mothers and poverty in the East and the South. I hope that they will look at these regions not because of oil, gold reserves and underground resources that these regions have, but they should look at through their conscience," he said.
"We always said that Turkey's EU membership will be an antithesis against thesis like clash of civilizations, but some did not want to understand it. These circles create some confusions," Erdogan said.
Erdogan said that Turkey's EU membership would serve as a bridge between the East and the West and it would eliminate prejudices.
