ANKARA (A.A) - 12.06.2011 - Chairman of the Justice and Development (AK) Party and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Sunday that they were going through very different excitement today as their party received one out of every two votes.
Speaking at his party HQ in Ankara, Erdogan said that they were very excited to have been elected for the third term in a rare case experienced in the democratic and multi party history of Turkey.
Erdogan said Sunday that Turkey was the winner of today's elections, regardless of who voted in favor of the AK Party and other parties.
Speaking at his party HQ in Ankara, Erdogan said that "Turkey is the winner today again".
Today, it was democracy that won. One more time, the will of the people won, Erdogan stressed.
The nation went to ballot boxes and said the final word. The nation put the last word to all the debates and questions. Today, my Turkish, Kurdish, Zaza, Arab, Laz, Georgian, and Roman brothers and sisters won. 74 million in Turkey won, Erdogan said.
Erdogan said his party would respect living styles, beliefs, values, pride and honor of every one, including those who did not vote for the AK Party; adding that nobody should have doubts or hesitations about it.
Erdogan said Sunday that while the AK Party received 16 million votes in the elections of 2007, this figure went up to 21 million votes on Sunday and that they were pleased with the result.
Speaking at his party HQ in Ankara, Erdogan said that they were excited to have increased their votes compared to 2007.
I thank our dear nation for their confidence in us and the AK Party, Erdogan said.
