Turkish premier meets with Turkish citizens in Dusseldorf

DUSSELDORF (A.A) - 27.02.2011 - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Turkish citizens living and working in Germany at a meeting in Dusseldorf.
Erdogan said at the meeting, "we have evacuated 16,500 Turkish nationals from Libya since the beginning of the unrest. There were around 30 thousand Turkish nationals in this north African country."
"In the past, there was a Turkey which could not help its citizens in Bulgaria, Romania and Greece. Eight years ago, there was a Turkey which could not help its citizens in quake-destroyed Sakarya, Yalova and Duzce. Today, Turkey has become a country which can give a helping hand to Haiti, Chile, Iraq and Afghanistan. Today's Turkey can advocate human rights and rule of law in all international platforms with a great courage and determination. Today, there is a Turkey which can raise its voice for children of Gaza, widows of Baghdad, women of Cairo and the others in Jerusalem, Tunis and Benghazi," he said.
The Turkish premier recalled that his government restored more than 4 thousand historical monuments in Turkey and the world including Mongolia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and Kosovo.
"We have opened Yunus Emre culture centers in several countries to teach Turkish language," he said, adding, "Turkey is one of a few countries which could easily recovered from the global financial crisis. None of Turkish banks went bankrupt during this process. Today, there are airports even in the most remote parts of Turkey. We will manufacture our own war plane in 2020. Our target is to create a Turkey which is one of the top ten economies of the world in the 100th anniversary of the Republic in 2023," he added.
Later, Prime Minister Erdogan proceeded to the city of Hannover.
Erdogan will attend Turkish-German Economy Congress to be hosted by the Turkish-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry after meeting with Gerhard Schroeder, former chancellor of Germany.
Together with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Erdogan will inaugurate the CeBIT Trade Show.
Prime Minister Erdogan will meet with Merkel over dinner.
Erdogan is expected to return to Turkey on Tuesday to attend a funeral for Necmettin Erbakan, former prime minister and leader of the Felicity Party (SP), who died of heart failure at the age of 85.
