Turkish president attends banquet hosted by Polish counterpart


WARSAW (A.A) - 07.06.2011 - The Turkish president, who is paying a formal visit to Poland, attended a banquet held in his honor by his Polish counterpart on Monday.
Turkish President Abdullah Gul attended the dinner hosted by Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski at the Belvedere Palace in Warsaw.
Speaking at the gathering, Gul said relations between Turkey and Poland were based on ties of friendship, alliance and strategic partnership.
Commenting on Turkey's EU membership process, Gul thanked Poland for supporting his country's EU bid.
Earlier on Monday, Gul appeared at a joint press conference with Komorowski after a tete-a-tete meeting and a meeting between Turkish and Polish delegations.
Gul also laid a wreath at the Unknown Soldier Monument, received Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and attended a conference at the College of Europe in Natolin.
Gul's visit is the first presidential visit from Turkey to Poland in last seven years.
The president is accompanied by state ministers Mehmet Aydin and Selma Aliye Kavaf, as well as high-level officials, academicians and journalists during his talks in Poland.
