Turkish President Gul leaves for Egypt

ANKARA (A.A) - 03.03.2011 - Turkish President Abdullah Gul has left for Egypt.
Gul is set to meet with Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, the head of the Armed Forces Supreme Council, during his working visit to Cairo.
Besides Turkey-Egypt relations, recent developments in Egypt and the Middle East will top agenda of the meeting.
President Gul is accompanied by Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.
Yesterday, President Gul said that Egypt was Turkey's closest friend, adding that he would express solidarity with Egyptian people and their will for Egypt to come through this period stronger.
Egypt, the most populous country in the Arab world, erupted in mass protests in January 2011, as the revolution in Tunisia seemed to inflame decades of smoldering grievances against the rule of President Hosni Mubarak. After 18 days of angry protests, Mubarak resigned and turned over all power to the military on February 11, ending his 30 years of rule.
