Turkish president reacts severely to terrorist attack that killed seven troops in southeast Turkey
ANKARA (A.A) - August 17, 2011 - Turkish President Abdullah Gul reacted harshly to a terrorist attack that killed seven troops and wounded scores early on Wednesday morning in Turkey's southeast.
"Everyone should keep in mind that there is no other power above the power of the state. Whoever thinks that they could coerce the Turkish state by use of weapons, terror and violence are gravely mistaken. And for them the consequences will be huge," Gul told reporters after a roadside bomb went off in Cukurca town in the southeastern province of Hakkari.
"State only shows its compassion to its people. We are capable of discriminating terrorists from our people, and show them that state's power is above all else. And everyone will see it," Gul said.
Gul said there was no weakness in Turkey's fight against terrorism, adding that security forces were vigilant to act whenever they were needed to do so.
"There is no pause in the fight against terrorism. Security forces are on alarm day and night without any holiday," Gul said.
