UAE is a leading country in family legislation, says Dr. Hanif Al Qassim
GENEVA, 11th July, 2017 (WAM) -- Dr. Hanif Hassan Ali Al Qassim, Chairman of the Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue, has said that the UAE legislation on personal status, women’s affairs and family are considered a model to follow on the international level.
He added that the UAE's efforts in maintaining family stability and social prosperity were reflected in international reports that proved the leading position of the country in this field.
These remarks came as part of the report published by the Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue on the occasion of World Population Day. It revealed that the world's population had doubled from 3 billion to 7 billion and is expected it to reach around 9 billion by 2050.
Dr. Al Qassim called upon the international community to urgently implement the UN Sustainable Development Goal 5.3 that calls to eliminate all harmful practices, such as child marriage. He highlighted the dangers of getting married at this age, including dropping out of school, and the deterioration of women’s social status.
He stressed the importance of developing and promoting family planning mechanisms to maintain sustainable population growth and give people rights in family life. He noted that World Population Day coincides with the Family Planning Summit 2017, which makes the conference of particular importance.
