Ukraine’s admission to NATO Alliance's matter - presidential candidate

BERLIN, April 2 (Itar-Tass) - Ukrainian businessman Petr Poroshenko, who is running for president, has said Ukraine’s accession to NATO is not on the agenda. “Membership into NATO depends on the alliance itself. We feel it has no unity on the issue inside NATO,” Poroshenko said in an interview Germany’s Bild daily on Wednesday. “If I’m elected president, I’d like to hold talks with our neighbours regarding the creation of new alliances to ensure security,” he said. In 2009-2010 Poroshenko, the founder of Roshen Confectionery Corporation, one of the biggest confectionery producers in the world, was Ukraine’s foreign minister in Yulia Timoshenko-led government. He was head of the parliament’s committee for the budget and the committee for finances and banking activity. In February-September 2005 Poroshenko was secretary of the Ukrainian National Security and Defence Council. Presidential elections in Ukraine are scheduled for May 25. Learn more on itar-tass.com
