UN-AL Special Envoy On Syria To Visit Iran Next Week

Tehran, Oct 21, IRNA -- UN and Arab League Special Envoy on Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi is to pay an official visit to Tehran next Saturday to confer with Iranian officials on regional developments. Brahimi is on a mission to coordinate the regional governments for the upcoming Geneva-2 Conference on Syria due to take place in November. The Geneva 1-2 conferences aim to help find a settlement for the humanitarian catastrophes in Syria. Iran and Saudi Arabia were absent in Geneva-1 conference held last year. Iran has reaffirmed that the Syrian crisis should be resolved through dialogue between the Syrian government and the opposition as Iran is strongly opposed to intervention of aliens and their support for terrorists fighting the government troops. Lakhdar Brahimi is currently on a visit to Egypt and then will fly to Syria to exchange views with the Syrian officials. After Syria he will visit Tehran. During his stay, Lakhdar Brahimi is to confer with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and probably with President Hassan Rouhani and Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani on latest developments in Syria./end
