UN-Arab League envoy on Syria to travel to Tehran

TEHRAN,Sept.10(MNA) – Lakhdar Brahimi, the new UN-Arab League joint special envoy on Syria, plans to pay a visit to Tehran at the earliest opportunity, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Asian and Oceanian Affairs Abbas Araqchi told the Persian service of the Mehr News Agency on Sunday.
Commenting on the Syrian crisis, Araqchi emphasized that political dialogue is the only solution to the crisis.
He also said that Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi had a telephone conversation with Brahimi on Saturday night, during which the two sides discussed the latest developments in Syria.
Iran can play positive role in resolving Syrian crisis
During the conversation, Brahimi emphasized that Iran can play a positive role in resolving the Syrian crisis and said that he hopes all the parties involved in the crisis will cooperate to restore peace in the country.
Salehi congratulated Brahimi on his appointment as the new special envoy on Syria and expressed hope that he would successfully fulfill his duty.
Salehi said that the Islamic Republic supports a Syrian-Syrian solution to the crisis and is keen to help efforts to restore peace in Syria.
