UN Official : We Expect Iran Partnership In Syrian Peace Talks

Beirut, May 22, IRNA – UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Derek Plumbly said on Tuesday that the United Nations expects Iranian partnership in Syrian peace talks. In a meeting with Iranian ambassador to Lebanon Ghazanfar Roknabadi in Beirut, Plumbly underlined Iranˈs significant role in regional and international developments. He expressed hope that the upcoming Geneva conference on Syria will bear fruits and the opinions of main players will come closer. Iranian ambassador for his part called for halting foreign financial and arms support for terrorist groups in Syria. During the meeting, the two diplomats discussed the latest regional developments. They were unanimous that the Syrian crisis can only be solved through diplomatic and democratic means. They also underlined the necessity of peace and stability in Lebanon./end
