Upgraded warships rejoin Iran’s naval fleet
TEHRAN,Dec.2(MNA) – Two upgraded missile-launching warships, named the Neizeh (Spear) and the Tabarzin (Axe), and an upgraded logistic warship, named the Sirjan, rejoined the Iranian Navy in a ceremony held on Sunday in the southern port city of Bushehr.
Iranian Armed Forces Commander Ataollah Salehi and the commander of the Iranian Navy, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, attended the ceremony which was held on the occasion of National Navy Day.
According to the public relations department of the Iranian Navy, the projects to overhaul and upgrade the two missile-launching warships have taken more than 4,000,000 man-hours in 30 months.
In the process of overhauling the Tabarzin warship, 14,600 parts have been indigenized, 8,400 parts have been serviced, 6,400 parts have been replaced, 61 systems have been repaired, 28 systems have been optimized. And in the process of overhauling the Neizeh warship, 19,500 parts have been indigenized, 11,200 parts have been serviced, 8,300 parts have been replaced, 75 systems have been repaired, and 32 systems have been optimized.
Each missile-launching warship weighs 275 tons and is 47 meters long and can sail at a maximum speed of 33 knots.
The Nour missile system with a range of about 120 kilometers, the Qader missile system with a range of about 200 kilometers, and the Fajr 27 artillery gun have been installed on Neizeh and Tabarzin warships.
The radar systems, fire-control systems, main engines, and generators of the warships have also been repaired and upgraded.
A domestically overhauled warship, named the Lavan, and a domestically overhauled SH3D helicopter also rejoined the Iranian Navy in a ceremony held on Saturday in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas.
