Vietnam attends ASEAN defence chief informal meeting

Hanoi, May 18 (VNA) – A delegation of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA), led by Chief of the General Staff and Deputy Defence Minister Phan Van Giang, is attending the 14th ASEAN Chiefs of Defence Forces Informal Meeting (ACDFIM 14), which began in Manila, Philippines on May 17. The 3-day event spotlights partnerships for change and cooperative commitments. Presentations from participating countries are expected to focus on maritime security and anti-terrorism. The presence of Vietnam at the event reflects the country’s practice of multilateral diplomacy and support for the Philippines’ rotating ASEAN chairmanship this year. In the framework of the ACDFIM, ASEAN senior operations and intelligence officers participated in the ASEAN Military Operations Informal Meeting (AMOIM) and ASEAN Military Intelligence Informal Meeting (AMIIM) from May 15 to 17./.
