Turkey has made contributions to European culture. The Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence, signed on Wednesday by 13 countries, is a crucial one. I will do everything possible so that all COE members pen the convention, Jagland stressed.
We initiated a new neighborhood policy in the Council of Europe. There is a great need for such a policy at this time. As the COE, we began working in Tunisia and Morocco. A report prepared by the COE Group of Eminent Persons was published. Accordingly, this report will show how co-existence can take place in Europe with all the differences, Jagland said.
We began working with Tunisian officials and the Venice Commission made advices on new laws, organizing elections and preparing a constitution in Tunisia, Jagland said.
We are also holding talks in Morocco and Egypt, Jagland added.
Hryshchenko, in his part, said that Turkey was successful in fulfilling its priorities during the term presidency.
Ukraine will have such similar priorities, Hryshchenko said.
We will progress with joint goals and joint slogans, Hryshchenko stressed.
Pointing out the importance of respecting cultural diversity, Hryshchenko said that respecting human rights and human dignity were also highly important.
Immigrants must integrate into the societies they live in. We will pay much attention to this issue during our term presidency, Hryshchenko also said.
