Prophet's Mosque In Madinah Mobilises Over 1,000 Cleaners Daily To Deal With Locust Swarms
MADINAH, May 18 (Bernama) -- Umrah visitors and pilgrims in Madinah are not only tested by the scorching heat but also face the seasonal wave of locust swarms.
Due to this, The Agency of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Prophet’s Mosque, in collaboration with various agencies under the General Presidency of Haramain, mobilised more than 1,000 cleaners daily to ensure that the mosque is always safe to visit.
"Currently, the agency has over 1,000 cleaners and over 600 electric and manual cleaning tools specifically for collecting insects", according to the agency's statement published on its official website Wednesday.
The statement added that the number of staff will be increased from time to time and that cleaning and disinfection work is carried out round-the-clock at the Prophet’s Mosque, including its courtyard and facilities.
A seasonal wave of locust swarms in Saudi Arabia usually occurs between January and June.
