Qatar to Host Ministerial Conference of OIC, General Assembly of IOFS in October

Doha, September 28 (QNA) - The State of Qatar is due to host the 9th Ministerial Conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and 6th General Assembly of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) during Oct. 1-3, 2023.
The two events are organized by the Ministry of Municipality in collaboration with OIC and IOFS.
The 9th Ministerial Conference of OIC will kick off on Oct. 1 under the theme of: "Towards Achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals in OIC Member States" to discuss food security and agricultural development issues, Ministry of Municipality outlined in a statement on Wednesday.
The conference will touch on an array of topics aimed at reviewing the decisions rendered by the previous conference, agriculture and food security situation in OIC member states, funding agriculture projects and food security in OIC member states, meetings of the work group concerned with agriculture in the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC), funding COMCEC projects and IOFS activities, OIC's agricultural institutions and approving the conference decisions and report.
The statement added that the 6th General Assembly of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) scheduled to be convened on Oct. 2-3 is expected to witness the participation of ministers of agriculture and experts from OIC member states, along with the participation of several international organizations.
Moreover, this convergence represents a decision-making summit within IOFS since it offers a platform to share ideas and concerted efforts to strengthen food security through the organization's member states.
The ministry pointed out that the 2nd high level forum will be held concurrently with the General Assembly of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) which seeks to reaffirm IOFS's commitment to bolstering sustainable food systems within and without the member states.
It also aims to provide a dynamic platform for dialogue among multiple stakeholders with special emphasis on advanced agricultural technologies, scientific research, and smart farming, transforming food supply chains and strategic partnerships, as well as empowering young people for sustainable food systems.
The 2nd high level forum includes a three-pronged forum, the first one focuses on development of agricultural technology for sustainable food security and highlights the pivotal role of technology in boosting agricultural production, stability of food supplies, with the key sessions discussing water management and organic farming technologies, as well as budding technologies leveraged in food production and policy frameworks for agricultural technology.
The second forum discusses the engagement of civil society in combating food insecurity, empowering women in agriculture, impact of urbanization on food security, as well as the critical role of young people in charting the future of food security.
In addition, the third forum discusses strengthening foodstuff markets in OIC member states to further promote trade and cooperation to help achieve a great deal of food security. The forum aims to review the development of the national food sector and investments in manufacturing foods and agricultural foods projects in the member states.
Having been elected to chair IOFS's executive council during the 5th General Assembly in 2022, Qatar primarily strives to advance food security issue in OIC states, as Qatar's dedication has been culminated in this mission with the honor of hosting this critical event, Ministry of Municipality said.
The selection of Qatar to host such kind of global events underscores the privileged status Qatar has attained, along with the big confidence it received from all countries of the world.
The organization of the two aforementioned events by Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Municipality, comes concurrently with the organization of Horticultural Expo 2023 Doha that will kick off on Oct. 2 until Mar. 28, 2024.
The event is anticipated to draw over 3 million visitors, giving the opportunity to visitors in order to view the captivating landscape of parks, as well as cultures experience from around the world. (QNA)
