32 Specialists To Study Latest Development In Interventional Pulmonology

SERDANG (Selangor, Malaysia), Sept 27 (Bernama) -- A total of 32 foreign and local specialists in respiratory medicine are attending the 6th Annual Malaysian Interventional Pulmonology Course 2012 at the Serdang Hospital. The specialists, including 21 from overseas, have gathered in the country to study the latest development in interventional pulmonology. Interventional pulmonology is a new field within pulmonary medicine which focuses on the use of advanced diagnostic and therapeutic techniques to treat patients with lung cancer, benign airway disorders and pleural diseases. Health Director of Selangor state Dr Azman Abu Bakar, who opened the three-day course here on Wednesday, said that a growing array of diagnostic and therapeutic tools had allowed interventional pulmonologists to comprehensively care for pulmonary patients. “Interventional pulmonology has changed the way respiratory medicine is practised, especially in Malaysia, in recent years. Currently in Asia, only Malaysia and Singapore perform bronchial thermoplasty," he said in a speech when opening the course. Two prominent interventional pulmonologists from the United States and Thailand will share their experiences with the delegates at the course. -- BERNAMA
