AGU-RCSI Joint Research Conference Kicks-off

Manama, Apr. 7 (BNA): Arabian Gulf University (AGU)’s President Dr Khalid bin Abdulrahman Al Ohaly said that the research cooperation between AGU and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) has been based on a future vision, specific tasks and an allocated budget. The aim is to produce high-quality scientific researches that meet the needs of the GCC society, Dr Al Ohaly said during the AGU-RCSI Joint Research Conference. AGU President called the joint committee composed of faculty members from both universities to discover the advanced research opportunities at the academic and clinical levels and expand the scope of cooperation between the two universities. RCSI’s President, Professor Sameer Otoom, stressed on the importance of the collaboration between both academic institutions to ensure a sustainable research supply, he encouraged the Arab world to pay more attention to the academic researches and adopt their recommendations. Community Medicine Professor and Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Deputy Dean in the College of Medicine and Medical Science at AGU, Dr. Randah Hamadeh said that the conference is a result of cooperation between both universities which begun 2010, adding that it is a model of successful partnership between AGU and RCSI Bahrain. Key speakers at the conference will include Prof. Sir Terence Stephenson of University College London (UCL) and Prof. Fadi El Jardali of the American University of Beirut (AUB). Dr Hamadeh said the conference will present 16 scientific papers and 60 research posters that include researches sponsored by the joint research fund, and other joint researches between academics and students of both universities. The cooperation agreement was signed between AGU and RCSI Bahrain in 2014, under which the joint research fund was established, with the aim of financing joint scientific research conducted by professors and students of both universities.
