Diabetes conference opens in Bahrain

Manama, Feb. 21 (BNA): The first edition of the Bahrain Diabetes and Endocrine Review (BDER) Conference got underway today in Bahrain. The two-day event is being held under the patronage of Supreme Council for Health (SCH) President Lieutenant-General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa. The Royal Bahrain Hospital is hosting the conference, in cooperation with ICOM, QTC and EBTKAR companies. Addressing the opening session, Lt. Gen. Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa stressed the importance of diabetes and endocrine review conference tom keep abreast of medicate strides and highlighting the causes of the disease. More than 500 participants attended the plenary sessions on the first day of the conference, representing the public and private sectors in Bahrain, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. He outlined the national strategy aimed at promoting prevention to help reducing the incidence of diabetes, commending restaurants which took the initiative to provide health meals. BDER chairman and RBH senior consultant endocrinologist Dr. Wiam Hussein stressed the importance of holding such specialized conferences in Bahrain, in light in increasing incidence of diabetes in the Kingdom. He underlined the importance of the medical specialization of diabetes and endocrinology, stressing fast therapeutic development. "The conference seeks to focus on the diseases associated with diabetes, including obesity, stress and cholesterol", said Dr. Wiam Hussein, citing also common thyroid, pituitary, chondrocyte, and osteoporosis diseases QTC executive director Karim Fadha said that the Bahrain Diabetes and Endocrine Review (BDER) Conference would be held every year in Bahrain.
