First Ever Cholesterol Book For Malaysians Launched

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 10 (Bernama) -- A book on cholesterol and heart disease for Malaysians titled "My Cholesterol Journey In Malaysia", which documents normal and abnormal cholesterol levels in Malaysians, was launched Thursday. Written by director of the Heart Foundation of Malaysia, Dr Khoo Kah Lin, the book contains his research and journal articles over the past 40 years, besides documenting the known food habits, lifestyle, different genes in Asians and the risk of coronary heart disease as well as the abnormal lipid genes in Malaysians. "All that I achieved with my colleagues (in producing the book) was done without money or study grants, but sheer enthusiasm. "People came into my life when I needed them most and when I reflect on this, I am always reminded of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz who stands on a yellow brick road in search of the Wizard to go home." Dr Khoo said this in his speech at the launch of the book by Malaysia's biggest fund management company Permodalan Nasional Berhad chairman Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid, who is also former chief secretary to the government. Also present were former prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his wife Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali. The 91-page first ever book written by the 76-year-old master of the Academy of Medicine of Malaysia and renowned interventional cardiologist and lipidologist, is priced at RM35 (US$10.68). All proceeds from the sale of the book will go to the Heart Foundation of Malaysia. -- BERNAMA
