Healthcare ministry fixes prices of anti-flu medication
Astana, August 01, 2009 (Khabar) - One more case of А/H1N1 flu is registered in Almaty. Virus was found in organism of 9-year-old boy who arrived from UK on July 22. At present his state is good and he is receiving out-patient treatment. So, 15 cases of А/H1N1 flu are registered in Kazakhstan by present. Most of ill persons recovered as virus had a light from.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of public health has fixed retail prices of medicines for treatment and prevention of the flu. There are 8 items in the list, such as the Oxolin ointment, such medicines as “Tamiflu” and “Relenza”, ascorbic acid in pills and drops, protective masks and paracetamol tablets.

- The retail price for “Tamiflu” will be 4300 tenge. The “Relenza” medicine produced by GlaxoSmithKline will cost 4000 by retail. The given medical supplies are used only on the doctor’s orders and are sold by prescriptions at drugstores. The oxilin ointment is the most common thing used for prevention. Its fixed price is 85 tenge whereas a protective mask which is considered to be the mean of individual protection costs 20 tenge. In case of unreasoned rise in prices we will revoke licenses of all participants of the pharmaceutical market, especially in the retail chain.
The healthcare ministry officials noted that the given measure is directed at an uninterrupted supply with medication and protective means against influenza. According to data of the ministry of public health, there are 2.5 million protective masks and 100 thousand packages of the oxilin ointment in storage at the moment. A daily monitoring of medicines’ availability and their prices are being held. If unreasonable price increase is discovered, people have to turn to the territorial bodies of the pharmaceutical control committee. Their telephone numbers can be found on the health ministry’s official website.
