Improving of nutrition in schools
Astana, November 18, 2009 (Khabar) - The central office of “Nur Otan” has spoke about improvement of nutrition in schools. MPs, representatives of ministries and departments, regional administrations and business structures have attended this meeting. It has been suggested to develop by the government and the Kazakh Academy of Nutrition free hot breakfasts and lunches in school, to improve the legal framework to regulate the safety of school meals and strengthen material-technical base of school kitchens. Currently, more than a half million pupils receive hot lunches. Specialized programs with a balanced diet, aimed at strengthening the health of students are realized in some schools of Almaty, Astana and Karaganda.
Toregeldy Sharmanov, president of Kazakh Academy of Nutrition:
- For example, we have developed a 2-week menu, now 4-week menu in the city of Almaty and Astana implement. We want to monitor this project and continue to expand it in the whole Kazakhstan in order children, pupils were provided with 100% hot meals.
Farhad Kuanganov, executive secretary of the Ministry of Education and Science of RK:
- We note with satisfaction that funding increased 4.7 times for hot meals and school food in general due to the regional budgets. We now pose the problem to organize at least free hot meals for all primary school children and all children from poor families.
