International scientific conference in Ust-Kamenogorsk

Ust-Kamenogorsk, October 08, 2009 (Khabar) - An international conference entitled “Innovations in science” has opened in Ust-Kamenogorsk. Scientists discussed the issue of renewable energy sources and recycling environmentally hazardous wastes. Developments by specialists from East Kazakhstan aroused great interest of their foreign colleagues. The conference started with the presentation of a new laboratory for nuclear technologies. Eastern Kazakhstani scientists also presented their know-how in metallurgy at the meeting. The issue of arsenic utilization is quite acute in the world today. This substance of the highest hazard level requires a very serious approach to its keeping. It is suggested that an alloy of arsenic and iron should be made. Such a combination can be stored outdoors in safe ingots.

Jean Contzen, scientist, Belgium:
- I’ve arrived in Ust-Kamenogorsk in order to take part in the important conference called “Innovations in science”. It’s great that scientists are exchanging opinions not only within the country but also with foreign colleagues. I’ve seen many talented people here and that you are ready and willing to work.

Every scientist will conduct a set of lectures and mater-class training sessions for students. Main topics are renewable energy sources, environmental projects, and the reduction of energy consumption in the industrial production. The fundamental science is presented by latest developments of both Kazakh and Russian scientists.

Yuri Potrebennikov, official of Nuclear Research Institute, Russia:
- Kazakhstan is considered to be one of 18 member-countries of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. We would like relations of the Joint Institute to expand beyond Almaty and Astana and reach institutions and universities of other cities, for example, Ust-Kamenogorsk.

One of the goals of the industrial-innovative development lies in the creation of competitive science.
