Mobile Mammography Unit Begins Tour Across Peninsular Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 (Bernama) -- The National Cancer Council of Malaysia's
(Makna) mobile mammography unit will begin its official tour to offer breast
cancer screening services to women across Peninsular Malaysia on Friday.
The fully-modified trailer lorry used by the unit is sponsored by Tenaga
Nasional Foundation, MNRB Holdings Bhd and other generous donors. Tenaga
national is Malaysia's national power provider while the MNRB Holdings Bhd is an
investment holding company in Malaysia.
The official tour for breast cancer screening services was launched by
Deputy Prime Minister's wife Norainee Abdul Rahman at a school here on Thursday.
In her speech, Norainee hoped more women would take advantage of the service
to undergo breast cancer screening and mammogram as early detection could save
their lives.
Meanwhile, Makna president Mohd Farid Ariffin said the trailer lorry had
three rooms, two of which would be used for clinical breast examination (CBE),
and the other, for mammogram.
"The 40ft long and 6ft wide trailer lorry is also equipped with digital
mammogram machine, as well as other mammography equipment and facilities," he
said.
The cost for each mammogram is RM150, but for women with household income of
less than RM3,500, unemployed or housewives, the service will be given free of
charge, he said. (US$1=RM3.07)
The mobile unit, with its 16 staff, will make its first stop in Yong Peng,
in southern state of Johor, on Friday before proceeding to other locations in
the peninsula.
