Nan province has highest rate of liver and bile duct cancer sufferers in Thailand
BANGKOK, April 9 (TNA) – Thailand’s northern Nan province has the highest rate of liver and bile duct cancer sufferers in the country for the past five years, says Thai Ministry of Public Health.
According to the Ministry of Public Health, Ban Luang district recorded the highest number of liver and bile duct cancer sufferers while Song Khwer and Pua districts had the lowest number. The rate of people aged between 40 and 60 who suffered from both cancers in Ban Luang district was 300 out of 100,000 people.
Doctors from Chulabhorn Hospital acknowledged that there are many factors that might put people in the province at risk for the cancers, including consumption behaviors, genes, and chemicals used in agriculture.
In an attempt to reduce the number of liver and bile duct cancer sufferers in the province, Chulabhorn Hospital’s doctors have started to use modern equipment and techniques to check people of risk groups aged above 30 in Ban Luang district.
So far, the doctors have found 15 new liver and bile duct cancer patients and have given them treatment for free of charge.
The doctors also continue to investigate true causes of the cancers so that they could find right cures.
Local health officials, meanwhile, continue encouraging local people to stop risk behaviors and educating them about initial symptoms of the cancers. (TNA)
