People warned of tattoo, piercing and extension dangers
BANGKOK, June 18 (TNA) - A dermatologist has publicly issued a new warning of health risks caused by tattoos, body piercings and extensions, now popular among teenagers.
Dr. Suvirakorn Opaswong of the Dermatological Society of Thailand (DST) told journalists on Tuesday that tattoos, piercings and extensions can lead to serious infections and illnesses, namely abscess, pus, tuberculosis, skin diseases, hepatitis, syphilis or even AIDS.
Dr. Suvirakorn cautioned that body piercings can cause allergic reactions to metal or nickel, while some tattoo lovers may have allergic reactions to tattoo inks and, in a worst case, inner rims tattooed can increase the risks of blindness due to chemical ink used for the service, and that any tattoo removal can be more painful and more expensive.
According to the senior dermatologist, those with extended eyelash or hair may have bad allergic reactions to glue used for the service, while skin around the eye and scalp can become inflamed and the glue can even make natural lashes and falling hair.
The senior dermatologist particularly warned those with hemophiliacs or valvular heart disease or skin diseases to avoid any extension service, while those who are more likely to get keloids or allergic to metal jewelries and nickel to avoid any body piercing. (TNA)
