Tan Tock Seng Hospital First in Asia to Introduce eWound Clinical Decision Support System
SINGAPORE, July 11 (Bernama) -- Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) is the first Hospital in Asia to introduce eWound Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS), an intelligent platform to improve nurses’ wound care management.
This new system will empower nurses with the knowledge to handle more complex wounds and standardise their assessment and management of wound care practices, providing a new paradigm of wound management practice in Asia.
The system is estimated to reduce wound infection rates, improve wound healing process and effectively reduce cases of wound deterioration.
Wound infection rates for pressure ulcers are expected to be reduced with the introduction of this system.
Such chronic wound conditions can affect elderly, bed-bound patients and significantly increase their morbidity and mortality rate as well as pain distress level.
"Cases of chronic wounds are prevalent in Singapore, with the caseload expected to soar as our population ages, compounded by complications caused by chronic diseases," TTSH’s director of Nursing, Yong Keng Kwang, said at a press briefing on Wednesday.
"The eWound Clinical Decision Support System will facilitate the adoption of best evidenced practice guidelines by assisting the nurse in developing patient-specific assessments and guiding the selection of appropriate treatment. This will result in improved clinical outcomes, achieve cost effectiveness and reduce unnecessary referrals to wound care specialists," Yong said.
