AFC Champions League: Sydney FC Faces Shanghai SIPG on Thursday

Doha, November 18 (QNA) - The Australian club Sydney FC will face, on Thursday, Chinese Shanghai SIPG at Khalifa International Stadium, as part of the AFC Champions League 2020 football competition, hosted by Doha. This match was scheduled in the first round of the competition but was postponed due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Japan's Yokohama Marinos leads the group with 6 points after two games. The second postponed match in the group will be held next Sunday, when Jeonbuk Motors faces Shanghai SIPG at Khalifa International Stadium. Sydney FC head coach Steve Corica is looking forward to testing his young players as they resume their 2020 AFC Champions League campaign against Shanghai SIPG. Corica said: "The weather is fantastic; the hotel is nice, and we had a couple of great training sessions. The players are looking forward to playing; it will be a difficult match against Shanghai SIPG but it is a good challenge." "We played them last year and had two draws and were unlucky not to win both games, they have big players and it is a good opportunity for us to play against quality players and a good challenge for my team." added Corica. For his part, Shanghai SIPG boss Vitor Perreira said: "We face the champions of Australia, Sydney FC, as our next opponents. Then we have the champions of Korea Republic, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors and previous champions of Japan, Yokohama F. Marinos. That makes it a very strong group. The schedule for us is very tight because we did not play yet. We must play every three days, but we will try to be at our best level and try to get the three points; that is the most important thing for tomorrow." "I know Sydney FC and they play 4-4-2 and have good movements. We played against them last season so both teams know each other. Tough game but we will try to play to get three points." he added.
