Asiad facilities to be commissioned in due time

Almaty, July 22, 2009 (Khabar) - The “Medeo” outdoor skating rink will start working this winter after a long reconstruction in Almaty. An international ski jump complex will open around this time as well. The construction of the Baluan Sholak Sports Palace is nearing its final stage. Apart from that, the issue of additional financing of the “Shymbulak” ski resort has been solved. This has been reported by Akhmetzhan Yesimov, mayor of Almaty who visited sports facilities of the Winter Asian Games.

Akhmetzhan Yesimov, Almaty mayor:
- The “Samruk-Kazyna” fund and the Development Bank of Kazakhstan have recently allocated 100 million US dollars for Shymbulak. The investor has already begun operations. There is no doubt that facilities will be ready for hosting the Asian games, despite the fact that some time has been wasted here.

After reconstruction, the Baluan Sholak sports palace will be able to seat up to 5 thousand spectators. This building does not look very attractive at the moment; however, it will be able to compete with world sport arenas in just one year. Women ice hockey competitions will take place here during the Asian Games. The construction works are being carried out day and night. Ski jumps will also open in winter. However, the complex will start operating only next year when the construction will come to an end. Alongside the sports facilities a great number of other facilities are being built in Almaty, including modern hotels, office buildings, schools, hospitals and flyover crossings.
