Athletes Can Achieve Best Performance In 2020 Olympics - KBS

BUKIT MERTAJAM (Penang, Malaysia) April 15 (Bernama) -- The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) believes the national contingent is able to achieve its best performance at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games after all high performance sports training programmes have been restructured. Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong said the ministry through the National Sports Council (MSN) has been giving full support to all national athletes and in fact the allocation for 2020 Tokyo Olympics had been increased to prepare the national contingent. “With the restructuring, what we want is an improvement in performance from athletes. Later we will not stop at the Tokyo Olympic Games. We want to carry out long term strategy to prepare for other championships,” Steven told Bernama after opening a tree-planting programme at Eco Forest Park here Sunday. According to Steven, KBS is always encouraging and giving support to local sport associations to continue organising sport tournaments at international level in the country. “As an example, the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) has proven that Malaysia can become an international sports tourism hub. As such, we encourage more international sport events to be held in the country,” he said. Earlier, the tree-planting programme organised by the Bukit Mertajam Parliamentary Constituency Office with the cooperation of Junior Chamber International (JCI) is aimed at planting 1,000 trees every year in the next five years. "The programme focuses on the involvement of children to promote the patriotism and to teach children on the importance of a balanced development,” he said. About 100 students aged seven to 12 from Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Juara, Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Beng Teik, and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) Bukit Mertajam took part in the programme. -- BERNAMA
