Chong Wei, V Shem/Wee Kiong Breeze Into Quarter Finals Of Danish Open

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 (Bernama) -- National badminton icon, Lee Chong Wei and top men's doubles pair, Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong breezed past their opponents to advance to the quarter-finals of the Danish Open on Thursday. In the second round match which took place early (Malaysian time), Chong Wei took 40 minutes to beat Indian player, H.S. Prannoy with 21-10, and 22-20 at the Odense Sports Park. Waiting for the national badminton ace in the next round is Brice Leverdez of France who beat Taiwan singles player, Chou Tien Chen 21-19 and 21-17. Chong Wei was Danish Open champion in 2005, 2006 and 2012. Meanwhile, V Shem and Wee Kiong took 46 minutes to trounce their opponents Marcus Ellis/Chris Langridge of England with 21-18, and 21-17. They will square off against China's pair, Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen who easily shunted aside Kim Astrup/Anders Ska Rasmussen of Denmark, 21-10, 21-19 in another second round match. However, women's doubles pair of Vivian Hoo and Woon Khe Wei were ousted after losing to the tournament's 13th seeded doubles pair, Stefani Stoeva and Gabriela Stoeva of Bulgaria, 13-21 and 19-21. -- BERNAMA
