Commercialbank Sponsors Qatari Yatch Team Racing
Doha, February 08 (QNA) - In support of Qatar National Sports Day, Commercialbank of Qatar announced its co-sponsorship of 'Sailing Arabia-The Tour 2012', the regional sailing event taking place across the Arabian peninsula through its sponsorship of Team Commercialbank Boat.
The second edition of Sailing Arabia- The Tour - the only yacht race around the GCC has the Qatar entry sponsored by the Commercialbank who will be hosting the in port races in Doha on 14th Feb 2012 in celebration with Qatar s National Sports Day , that revives the rich maritime heritage associated with the region in a modern side of sailing and is to provide a great opportunity for the crowd to support the Qatar team.
Thanking HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Chairman of the Qatar Olympic Committee for his support of sports in Qatar, Andy Stevens, Group Chief Executive Officer, Commercialbank said, " This event is a great initiative towards reigniting the region's rich maritime heritage, promoting one of the region's fastest growing sports, and generating goodwill and a healthy spirit of competition. We were immediately supportive and excited to participate in the development of this race, connecting several countries and promoting this sport of tactics, speed and mastery. Stevens further added "We believe that sport plays an integral role in today's society, promoting values such as competition, endurance, and good sportsmanship. We will hence, be using this event to show our support to the Qatar National Sports Day being held on 14th February by giving our staff the opportunity to spend the day in a unique and exciting environment, engaging them in the vision of Commercialbank and its commitment to sports by helping them enhance their team spirit through relevant team building exercises organized by the Commercialbank Sports Committee, that have been tailor-made to fit in with the nation -wide celebrations."
Now in its second year, the race is organized by Oman Sail in collaboration with a number of Federations and authorities from the Gulf region, with the concept of bringing Gulf States together in a race around the Arabian Peninsula.
The team members announced to date include Bertrand Pace, skipper and his crew of Vincent Portgual, Gildas Morvan, Julien Falxa, Cedric Chateu and Clement Salzes. Named after its sponsor, Qatar s team Commercialbank Group will go head to head with four teams from Oman, as well as teams from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Ras al Khaimah representing United Arab Emirates.
The race brings the GCC countries together through their maritime history, with the sport of sailing and the related infrastructure being increasingly developed across the states. It showcases a number of state-of-the-art marinas across the region and their unique ability in hosting world class sailing events. The marine tourism industry and the sport of sailing are growing rapidly in the GCC, SATT provides a winter alternative to the European offshore event and the timing is perfect as a prelude to the European sailing season.
