Countdown to Brave 3 launch in Brazil begins

Manama, Mar. 13 (BNA): His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Honourary President of the Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Federation BMMAF, founder of Khalid bin Hamad Mixed Martial Arts KHK MMA, face of the BRAVE organisation, called for the allocation of a quarter of the proceeds, of the third edition of the championship, for the treatment of a child afflicted with a rare disease and who lives in Curitiba, Brazil, which will host the competition scheduled on March 18.
This directive of His Highness comes in line with his custom to put forward humanitarian initiatives through various activities and sporting events, through which His Highness aims to promote the concept of the sport being a primary pillar of support to strengthen humanitarian bonds, and as a vital field to establish the concept of social and charitable initiatives in different communities.
For his part, His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa said, "I was very moved by the health condition of the child Arthur Tetto Lader, in the city of Curitiba, Brazil, which will host the third edition of the BRAVE Championship. The child, who is only a year old, suffers from the incurable disease of spinal muscular atrophy, one of the rare diseases of our time. The cost of treatment for just a year is too expensive for the child's family, which has yet been unable to provide the required amount. This pushed us to allocate a portion of the proceeds of this tournament for the benefit of this child, for whom we wish a speedy recovery."
For his part, Mr. Mohamed Shahid, CEO of KHK MMA said, "Implementing the directives of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, a quarter of the proceeds of the third edition of BRAVE, which is scheduled to be held in Brazil, will be given for the treatment of the child, Arthur, who suffers from spinal muscular atrophy disease. The money will also support the promotional donation campaign under #juntospeloarthur (together for Arthur), to motivate companies and institutions to contribute and join the donation campaign, which was launched on Arthur’s Facebook page: https: // www .facebook.com / Juntos-pelo-Arthur-AME-tipo-I-1543019125989367/"
Arthur’s Health Condition
Arthur’s condition was diagnosed as spinal muscular atrophy disease, a rare medical condition for which there is no definitive cure at the present time. This disease causes difficulty in swallowing and absorption, as well as atrophy of the muscles of the legs such that that they are weaker than arms. It also increases susceptibility to respiratory infections, with the accumulation of secretions in the lungs and throat.
Patients with this disease use a drug called "Spinraza", which is still in its experimental stages in Europe, and was recently approved in the United States. Arthur is scheduled to undergo his first treatment session on the 29th of April, after a long waiting period to get the treatment. The treatment will not cure Arthur, however, it will enable him to breathe without the assistance of devices, and to move his arms and legs and receive nutrition by mouth, in addition to strengthening his head and body, and perhaps allowing him to walk.
