Defending Champion Among 67 Players To Feature In 2016 CIMB Classic

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 (Bernama) -- Defending champion Justin Thomas from the United States is among sixty-seven players set to feature in the CIMB Classic Golf Tournament to be held from Oct 20-23 at the TPC Kuala Lumpur (previously known as KLGCC) in Bukit Kiara. Joining him are his compatriot Ryan Moore who won the tournament back-to-back in 2013 and 2014 and also world number six, Adam Scott of Australia. "Each year, the CIMB Classic plays host to a stellar cast of some of the world’s best in golf, from the latest top-ranked players, to champions past and present," CIMB Group Chief Executive Tengku Zafrul Aziz was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the CIMB Group, Monday. "This year’s list features nine of the top-13 in the final FedExCup rankings, one of the best line-ups in our tournament history. We are extremely excited and fans can definitely look forward to a great show in three weeks’ time," he added. Malaysia will be represented by Gavin Kyle Green who claimed the SapuraKencana National Classic title last month while another slot will be allocated to the Malaysian player with the highest spot in the Official World Golf Ranking as of Oct 11. Eleven more players will be added to the field and the top 10 players of the Asian Tour Order of Merit as of Oct 17 will also be included in the tournament. CIMB Classic, with a purse of US$7 million (RM28.804 million), is part of the PGA Tour's season-long FedExCup competition and is co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and Professional Golf Association of Malaysia. -- BERNAMA
