Doha Wins Safest City in Middle East Award

Doha, February 09 (QNA) - Doha is the safest city in the Middle East with the least incidents of violence and has won an award instituted by the Jordan-based Arab Non Violence Society (ANVS). The selection of the winner was made in a transparent manner, based on a set of standards and criteria, the ANVS said, while announcing the prize, according to media reports here today. The factors considered for the award include: status of human rights organizations in the respective countries, number of political prisoners, incidence of crime, role of institutions fighting violence and those working for development of women and children, institutions fighting poverty and unemployment, media freedom and the number of law suits filed against journalists.
