Dominic Thiem to Participate in 2021 Qatar ExxonMobil Open

Doha, February 10 (QNA) - The world third-seed Dominic Thiem will participate in the 2021 Qatar ExxonMobil Open, the Qatar Tennis Federation (QFT) said.
QFT confirmed the participation of a number of the world's most prominent stars in the Qatar Open, which will be held from March 8 to 13 at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex.
Also, Swiss sensation and 20 Grand Slam titles winner Roger Federer would headline the 2021 Qatar ExxonMobil Open.
The Swiss maestro, who will be starting his 2021 season in Qatar after opting out of this years Australian Open, is a three-time former champion in Doha, triumphing in 2005, 2006, and 2011 where he beat Russias Nikolay Davydenko in straight sets.
His last appearance was at the 2012 tournament where he withdrew ahead of his semifinal with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga due to a back injury.
Tariq Zainal, QTF Secretary-General, said that the most prominent tennis stars will participate in the 2021 Qatar ExxonMobil Open.
Zainal added that the organizing committee renews its commitment to organizing the tournament competitions in the best possible atmosphere to provide an opportunity for all participants to practice their favorite sport in a healthy and safe environment during this year's edition, expressing his aspiration to receive all participants and the fans of the tournament.
He added that the six-day tournament will witness the participation of 32 players in singles competitions and 16 teams in doubles competitions, as 25 players have been confirmed to participate in the tournament automatically, while three players will receive special invitations, and the remaining four cards in the tournament draw will be allocated to the qualified of the preliminary rounds.
Karim Alami, Qatar ExxonMobil Open Tournament Director, said that this year's edition includes three of the top ten ranked in the world, led by Austrian Dominic Thiem, world No.3 and holder of the 2020 US Open Tennis Championship title, and the first ranked in the tournament, pointing out that the organizing committee is pleased to receive Swiss sensation Roger Federer, who returns to the official competitions through the Qatar Open.
