El Shorbagy Qualifies for Qatar Classic 2020 Round of 16

Doha, November 03 (QNA) - The Egyptian Mohamed El Shorbagy, the first seed, qualified on Monday for the round of 16 for the 2020 Qatar Classic squash championship, organized by the Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation, after beating Englishman Georgy Parker 3-1. In the second round competitions of the tournament held at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, El Shorbagy defeated Parker by 11-8, 9-11, 11-6 and 11-8. Mohamed El Shorbagy has three Qatar Classic titles in 2013, 2015 and 2017, followed by his compatriot Karim Darwish and Englishman Peter Nicole with two titles each. Also, Forty minutes was just all it took World No. 6 Marwan El Shorbagy to dispatch there former World No.1 Gregory Gaultier in straight games (11-7,11-4,11-6) and move into the pre-quarters of the Qatar Classic 2020 on Monday. In a statement following the victory and qualification, El Shorbagy confirmed that the Qatar Classic is a tournaments with great history where all the participants are looking to win its title. El Shorbagy thanked the organizing committee, and said that everyone here is grateful to the Qatar squash federation for hosting this global event at this time every year, adding the timing of the tournament means a lot to all players, in reference to the COVID-19 challenge that Qatar succeeded in containing by organizing the championship, amidst strict and safe precautionary measures. Moreover, New Zealand's Paul Coll, the World No.5, set up a last-16 clash with World No.17 Gregoire Marche after his superb 38-minute straight games (11-7, 11-5, 11-8) win over Frenchman Baptiste Masotti on Monday. The World No.12 Fares Dessouky proved too hot to handle for Germany's Simon Rosner as the Egyptian finished off their Round 3 match Pittsburgh of the Qatar Classic 2020 in 40 minutes as he claimed straight games (11-3, 11-9, 11-8) win. Meanwhile, France's Gregoire Marche booked his place in the Round of 16 of the Qatar Classic 2020 with a straight-games (11-8, 11-7, 11-5) defeat of Egypt's Mohamed El Sherbini. (QNA)
