FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022: Brazilian Federation Rejects Argentine Rematch
Brasilia, August 11 (QNA) - The Brazilian Football Confederation announced Thursday that it rejected to replay a clash against Argentina within the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifiers, which was suspended minutes after kickoff.
After receiving a request from the technical staff of the team led by coach Tite and General Coordinator Juninho Paulista, the federation president, Edinaldo Rodriguez, will seek to suspend the match scheduled for September, an official statement from the Brazilian Confederation said, highlighting a prior agreement between the FIFA and the Argentine Federation to cancel the match, a move which will be approved by the Brazilian Confederation.
In February, FIFA decided to replay the match that was stopped last September, due to violations of COVID-19-related protocols in the Argentine national team, with representatives of the Brazilian health authorities storming the pitch, accusing four English Premier League professionals of violating the rules.
The health protocol at the time forced a compulsory quarantine upon their arrival in Brazil.
The move caused controversy, prompting the Argentine players to enter the dressing room, refusing to return to the field. (QNA)
