Forward dropped ahead of World Cup qualifier due to injury
SEOUL, March 20 (Yonhap) –- South Korean forward Ji Dong-won was replaced on the national football team on Sunday because of a leg injury.
The Korea Football Association (KFA) said Ji, who plays with FC Augsburg, won't be available in South Korea's 2018 FIFA World Cup second round regional qualifiers against Lebanon on Thursday and a friendly against Thailand on next Sunday after he picked up a right thigh injury during his training with the German Bundesliga club.
The KFA said that FC Seoul midfielder Ju Se-jong will take Ji's place on head coach Uli Stielike's 23-man roster. Ju, 25, has played two matches for South Korea.
This is the second time that South Korea have replaced players from their original roster announced on Monday.
On Friday, the KFA said that Gamba Osaka defender Oh Jae-suk was dropped from the list because of a left thigh injury and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors right back Kim Chang-soo was selected to fill his void.
