Frost Wants To Bring Malaysian Badminton Into World Top 3
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 (Bernama) -- Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) technical director, Morten Frost Hansen is determined to bring Malaysian badminton into the world top three.
"My key performance index (KPI) is set to get Malaysia badminton into the top three by 2020. I will take full responsibility if I am unable to achieve it," he told Bernama here Thursday.
The 58-year-old also known as Mr Badminton, said his long term plan was to create two top ten player in all five categories by 2020.
"I want each category in men's single to have two top ten players. The same goes to other four catagories that is women single, men and women double as well as mixed double," he said before appearing on Bernama News Channel's (BNC) breakfast show "Hello Malaysia" at Wisma Bernama here Thursday.
Frost said the current situation of badminton in Malaysia has changed compared when he was here last time in 1997-2000.
Frost added he was actually the one who started the women's team.
"So if we looked at it, it's only been not even 20 years and I think the progress of women badminton in Malaysia and the achievement is pretty good."
Frost said now everyone is very busy looking for the next Lee Chong Wei and he believed that was extreamly wrong.
"There is a reason why Chong Wei is an icon. He has been oustanding for so many years and that why we called him an icon and we do not replace an icon with another icon. It's so simple.
"In order to be world number one, every player need to have a 'special DNA' and he (Chong Wei) is having it, but so many players do not have this."
Frost is regrouping and getting prepared for the next four years cycle and the main goal is the 2020 Tokyo Olyimpic Games.
