Generation Amazing Resumes Its Schools Program as Part of Sport for Development Initiative

Doha, February 23 (QNA) - The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 legacy project, Generation Amazing, resumed the delivery of its schools program this week. The initiative, delivered in collaboration with Qatars Ministry of Education and Higher Education, involves sport for development sessions being delivered in schools across the country.
The sessions teach a variety of key skills, including leadership, communication and teamwork. They also tackle issues such as gender inequality, exclusion, bullying, climate change and cultural barriers, among others. The program is being relaunched after being halted at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Generation Amazing was launched by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) in 2010 and is active in countries around the world, including Qatar, India, Jordan, Lebanon, Myanmar, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, the Philippines, Rwanda and Uganda. The program has positively impacted more than 725,000 people since its launch and aims to exceed 1 million beneficiaries before the end of 2022.
In comments, HE Minister of Education and Higher Education Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabor Al Nuaimi said: "Sport is an essential part of the curriculum that schools follow in Qatar. Therefore, we are happy to work with Generation Amazing and capitalise on the World Cup by incorporating football for development practices into our training that will quickly become an integral part of the education offered in Qatar."
For his part, HE SC Secretary-General Hassan Al Thawadi, said: "Sport possesses a unique power to unify, inspire and create a cohesive environment and society. Through the schools program, we ensure a lasting educational impact in Qatar and the region, and set an example for how we can use our privileged position as FIFA World Cup hosts to spread the message of inclusion and drive social change."
Hessa Al Dosari, National Coordinator Chief of the UNESCO Department, QNCECS, said: "We aim to create a model of sustainable development in the fields of education, culture and science. We are proud to support the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to implement Generation Amazings football for development programs in both international UNESCO-associated schools and government schools in Qatar."
The schools program includes a series of active football for development sessions designed to teach participants essential life skills. In its broader philosophy, the program adheres to and promotes the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Since its launch in 2016, the program has been conducted in various government and international schools in Qatar and Jordan with support from the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science (QNCECS).
As part of the program, Generation Amazing is training PE teachers from 26 schools in Qatar, including government, international and Qatar Foundation schools, at the new Generation Amazing Community Club in Lusail. The training consists of a mix of the new Generation Amazing e-learning online platform and in-person delivery conducted by Generation Amazing master coaches. After their training, PE teachers will deliver sessions to students in their respective schools.
Generation Amazing will soon announce details of the schools program resumption in Jordan and Oman, as it aims to spread the legacy of Qatars FIFA World Cup across the region. (QNA)
