Grandmaster Nigel Short lauds Talking Chess

TEHRAN,March 11(MNA) – English grandmaster (GM) Nigel Short said Talking Chess is a new idea which could help the game.
“Chess is a complicated game and I believe that Talking Chess is a good opportunity to explain complexity of that. In the bilateral confrontation, two players have chances to talk about their ideas. In the late 70’s -- early 80’s, the game like this held but it was artificial and I think it is a better idea,”
Iran’s GM Ehsan Ghaem Maghami also explained these kinds of the competitions could help those who are interested in the game.
“I played Russian GM Anatoly Karpov four years ago but I think Talking Chess is more interesting for the media and people since we see more innovation in this idea. We can explain our thoughts in front of private camera and we can explain more for those who are chasing the game,” he said.
Nigel Short is often regarded as the strongest English player of the 20th century as he was ranked third in the world, from January 1988 to July 1989.
In 1993, he challenged Garry Kasparov for the World Chess Championship in London. He has defeated 12 of the 19 officially recognized World Champions since 1886. As of September 2012, Short was the oldest player on the world top 50 live rating list and was working as a chess columnist, coach and commentator.
